Hey guys. Dr. Carpenter again with Lexington Spinal Care. Originally we were talking about. The five components of a subluxation and what we look for in your exam, one of the things that’s important on that is what’s called joint dysfunction. This is how a joint actually moves because in order for a joint to be healthy, it really needs its full range of motion.
And in fact, one of, one of the sayings, I always. Say around here is you show me a joint that has full range of motion. I’m gonna show you a healthy joint. ’cause that’s really how that works. When we look at a neck motion and neck mobility where people really struggle a lot of times with their motion we wanna see that you have full range of motion.
So an extension’s gonna be 40 degrees, we’re gonna have 80 degrees inflection. Our lateral flexions are gonna be 45 degrees from side to side, and then from a top down view. Our range of motion should be a full 80 degrees. So you should literally, when you’re. Looking at your range of motion, one of the things you can very easily distinguish if you have full range of motion is when you turn your head to the left, you should really be able to get your chin to your shoulder on both sides.
Commonly we see people can’t even come close to that, but that’s a clear indication that there’s joint dysfunction, something’s not moving well. And that’s really the beginning of the problems in our spine, really the beginning of where we create all of the other things, whether it’s. Muscle spasm, muscle tightness joint irritation, disc irritations really starts from the lack of mobility in the spine.
So it’s crucial and it’s vitally important that the spine is aligned so the joints can move the way that they should. And we check both your neck range of motion, your thoracic and your lumbar range of motion when we’re doing our exam with you.
