here with Lexington Spinal Care. Today I’d like to talk to you about one of the most frequent reasons why we actually see neck pain here in the office. This neck pain can be anything from just tension in your neck or problems in your trap areas or feeling like you got knots everywhere, that sort of thing.
And we actually see that quite frequently in terms of that. One of the x rays that we take is what’s called a lateral cervical view, and this is the side view of the neck. And these are the bones that make up the neck. This is obviously the back of the head, your jawline, and your teeth. And one of the things we’re looking to see is do we have the proper curvature.
Now what’s really ironic about the spine, the views from the side, we should have a series of curves, but when we’re looking at your spine front to back, we should always be like straight up and down. So here we want to actually see a cervical curve. This red line that I have here is actually the position of this person’s neck.
We want this red line to be on the yellow line. So you can clearly see the weight bearing is not evenly going through her spine the way that it should be. This creates a lot of compression on the bones and the joints and the disc and the nerves. Creates a lot of fatigue, just not only in the muscles, but just fatigue is in general because it affects our nervous system.
We always want the red line here to be on that arc. And as we can help a person do that, and those are certainly within the scope of our practice. It’s a game changer when it comes to really helping you really get control of that pain and not just the pain for today, but five years from now and ten years and really getting back to a healthier spine.
