 Hey guys,

Doctor Carpenter, here with Lexington Spinal Care. One of the things that we see a lot here in the office is we see a lot of people have a lot of trouble getting up out of bed in the morning. They have a lot of stiffness and a lot of discomfort. Whether that’s due to injuries or slips or falls or just old age, maybe even sometimes some degeneration.

Here’s a quick tip to help you out and help you get through that a little bit easier. So Annie is going to demonstrate that for us. So she’ll lay on her back. So when your alarm goes off in the morning, the first thing you want to do, get in, lay on your back just like she is. We’re going to do some knee chest pulls.

So I’m going to have her bring her knee towards her chest. She can either grab behind her leg or in front, whichever one you’re more comfortable with. She’s going to make a nice gentle stretch to pull forward. As she does she wants to hold at the end of the stretch. I like to hold for like a count of four, like thousand one, two, three, and four, and then she releases.

And then the old saying is what you do to one side, you do to the other. So she’ll take the other side, she’ll work that as well. And as she’s holding that stretch, what’s happening is the fluid’s getting pulled into the joint. You’re starting to mobilize that joint, starting to hydrate. So when she puts two feet on the ground, she’s really ready for weight bearing.

So if you’re relaxed for a second, if you would just roll to your side, this is how you should get out of bed in the morning. You want to roll to your side. I’m gonna let her legs swing off the front as she pushes herself up. This puts a lot less pressure on your back, and now she’s all prepared and ready to stand up. Thank you.
